I was knackered after two sessions in a row but with sunshine and a
westerly breeze it was too nice not to give it a try. I think some were
going to West Mersea but after yesterday’s away day at Point Clear I
decided to stay local today and headed to Levington Marina arriving just
before midday. The tide was still fairly low but you could sail out of the
marina entrance. There didn’t seem a great amount of wind so took a
chance with 8.5 on the 310. I wobbled off at 12.10 and had a few runs
across the river but wind a bit light. Then there was enough breeze to make
it to my turning bay just before Felixstowe docks. There was some nice
breeze in patches making 25 kts a couple of times. It was great fun sailing
down the 2-mile run overtaking the many yachts heading out to sea! I also
overtook the two tourist boats on their trip down river from Ipswich:)
After an hour and a half I went ashore for a sandwich. Sadly, the wind had
turned a bit south turning very gusty, shame really as there was loads of
water now in the river! I beat up to Levington creek but the wind was awful
so decided to call it a day. Today and tomorrow morning promises 40 mph
winds which is too much for all but flat water so I might try Levington
again and hope its not too windy?
